I'm Just A Small Timer

I have no idea how I stumbled onto mrbrown's blog and OMG, it has a mountain of entries and other stuff. I haven't really explored the site totally but I see alot of links to many other local bloggers. Apparently, it seems like a cult, with them bloggers being friends and supporting each other and all that. I mean, thats what friends are for right? They support each other.

Which brings me to a conclusion. They are "there". As a matter of fact, "there" is an understatement. Who am I kidding? They have been around way long before me with their own personalised blogs at blogspot or otherwise and here I am using friendster's templates as my own! What can I say, I'm just a small timer. I will need more than luck in order to climb up the blogging ladder. Ha!

"All it takes is one or two of the more popular bloggers to start talking about a certain issue and it will spread to many blogs — whether it's a serious issue or even just something silly."

Sure, the trend may be out there. But what happens if the issue was an idea of another blogger or by some "lucky" chance that a popular blogger and a non-popular blogger starts writing about a similar thing, at the same time. Chances are that the masses will favour the popular blogger over the non. Its a biased and prejudiced world out there. Or maybe worse. Dog eat dog. I'm not saying that my idea was stolen or something. I'm just ranting.

Rule of the thumb I figured for a blogger:

  1. You must be a babe or a dude of character.
  2. You must have a unique style in writing.
  3. You must know what you want to write.
  4. You must know what language do you want to write in. What? You don't know there is a hokkien blog somewhere out there? Where have you been?
  5. You must know your target audience Then again, maybe not. Wendy Cheng wasn't that popular when she just started out right?
  6. If you don't give a damn about the above rules, just treat it like a journal that is open for all to see.

Until the next time!

Increase of fares

Again! We commuters are being sucked dry I tell you! A $20 value in the easylink card could last me abt 2 weeks. With an increase, I wonder how long can it last me now. If this goes on, maybe getting my own vehicle will be the cheaper choice! Sheesh!

Anyone going to the PC Fair at EXPO this coming week? Thinking of buying RAM for my computer. It lags on me sometimes. A DVD writer would also be good, unless I have broadband. A mp3 player perhaps? There are some things money just can't buy too. Like babe watching. With so many fairs at EXPO currently, there shouldn't be any lack of them... I hope.

Hmmm, I wonder what is the most cost efficient way to get there. Anyone wanna tag along?

Kakis

Read The Sunday Times and under the Youth Section. It talks about a bunch of teenagers dancing to Para Para. That game was sooo long ago. Its amazing that this kind of thing gets featured again. If an old game and its players can get featured in the newspapers, maybe The Straits Times should feature an older game like Daytona USA instead. Yes, I'm jealous!

Ok, enough of sidetracking. In the featured article, those people playing Para Para gets interviewed and one calls his Para friends his "arcade kakis" Does that mean that they only meet up to play arcade and nothing else? Not that it is a bad thing. I do have kakis for different group of activities myself. But usually, my friends are all-rounders. We all can change activity whenever the mood or trend or interests change.

In my honest opinion, this is a bad thing. What happens when ur kaki can't meetup due to some unforeseen commitment? What does that make you? Yes, a loner, somewhat. There is no right or wrong or good or bad to have different friends for different activities.

For your info, I don't have much available kakis in my contact lists nowadays. Sure I have clubbing kakis (weekends only), army kakis (meetups once in approximately every 3 months), close buddies (meet up whenever we have the chance), ex-classmates and other friends (meetups is purely via appointment) and classmates (we see each other everyday during the school term, you get the drift).

My close buddies, well, have already been narrowed down to... "countable with one hand". As for commitment wise, some have girlfriend, work, family, other friends, school etc etc. So we don't really get to see each other much other than special occasions like Chinese New Year or Birthdays. The others... are like me.

After rambling so much, I can already foresee what you readers can going to say at the back of your head. "Get a girlfriend, you ain't getting young any longer". Oh well, getting a girlfriend aint that easy nowadays either. Plenty of factors involved and I shall not even go into that area (until a future time perhaps?) But if you have someone interesting to recommend to me, why not? I like making friends. *grinz*

P.S Oh yea, I just bought the book Asking for Trouble: Tales of Saffy and Amanda. Read abit during the bus ride home and yep, I can say that it is a good buy. Highly recommended reading material! Get your copy today! (I wonder if I can get the author's autograph for my book... hmmm)

Bumming around does have its limit

A week of bumming around does lags the brain and body. You tend to take life easy when everything in the world is rushing by. I've rewatched my old movie vcds, rented new ones, watched it twice, making trips to nearby neighbourhoods to check if there is anything new or interesting, played computer games, surfed the internet for anything and everything, read self help books, sent out job resumes, called the classified ads part time section.

One of the result is the heavy usage of internet time and thus I need to seriously cut down on the usage. For you loyal reader's info, I am still on dialup with a time plan so.... stop sniggering.

During the internet surfing, I came across the anime Gundam Seed Destiny which is a sequel to the anime Gundam Seed. Since I don't have broadband to bit-torrent the files to my computer effectively and efficiently, I was wondering if you readers have or know of people who have this anime series in their possession.

Oh yea, Jason Hahn has written a book called Asking for Trouble: Tales of Saffy and Amanda. I'm just waiting to get my hands on that book to read after I'm done with my current one. For your info, (again) Jason Hahn is a regular contributor to 8 Days magazine. He usually writes about his experiences sharing an apartment with Saffy and Amanda, and his beloved adopted mongrel dog, Pooch. The way those words are penned (or typed) is so damn interesting to read. In fact, that is the reason why I buy 8 days in the first place.

Unfortunately, this is all I have for you loyal readers today. Until the next boring update, this is The Lecherous Monk, logging off.

P.S. I sound like a host! Sheesh!

Blogger's Block

Apparently, I seem to be suffering from this. And I only have one conclusion why. After the exams, I am a bladee slacker! Slackers don't do anything, which means I have nothing to write about!

I guess that only leaves me room to rant huh?

Playing computer games the whole day can really tire the eyes (duh) and your wrist and fingers. Imagine the left hand touching the WASD buttons the whole day! Kinda think of it, now its slightly numb. Bleahz.

Being broke ain't fun. Staying at home ain't that fun either. I need a sugar mummy! Any lobangs from you readers out there?

YESSA!

Exams are finally over! And today's paper was amazing... easy. Lets hope the marker will also go easy on my paper. Haha. Now that I am so free, I have so many things to do. Number 1 priority, time to start training seriously for another competition coming up. Hope it doesn't burn a bigger hole in my pocket. There is also an upcoming fish fair at the Singapore Expo late May. After today, I wonder if there is an meet ups with my sister anot.

Apparently, she was concerned about me and she didnt like it when I asked her to concentrate on her studies first and not worry about me too much. The result? Throwing tantrums. If you are reading this mei, I'm sorry if I use my words too bluntly. Like I said, I only have the best of interest for you. If you still continue to hate me... *Shrugs*

For you loyal readers, stay tuned for more post in the month of May cause there will be many!

Happy Birthday To The May Babies!

Knowing friends whos birthday fall on the same day. What are the odds of that? Slim but not impossible. In school, 2 of my lecture mates' birthday fall on the same day too. Outside school I know of another 2 more. What can I say? Its the month of May, the birthday month. In total, I know of 5 friends whos birthday falls on this month.

Anyways, it time to wish these respective people...

Wei Wen - 5th May
Felicia Chan - 7th May
Brian - 7th May
Ian Kwan - 10th May
Colin Sim - 19th May

Happy Birthday to these people especially Felicia & Brian if you are reading this! Today is your special day! Brian jioed me last week for a drinking session, Felicia booked me on her birthday but up till now she has yet to make plans. Haha.

I have a Mother's Day gathering with my relatives at my granny's place and the worst of all, an exam paper on Monday! So many! I guess I have to give some meetups a miss this time round.

Hmmm, it seems that after the 21st Birthday, any subsequent birthdays don't seem important anymore huh? Guess noone wants to be reminded that they are getting old...

Oh yea, your present is here with me Felicia, as promised. If we aren't meeting up on your Birthday then find another time and I pass it to you ok?

Raining Cats & Dogs

What am I doing? I should be studying instead of typing this! Guess I need the momentum to really get going. Tha rain has somehow... made me lazy. Haha. I wonder If I can study everything by Sunday. Everything seems so easy yet so hard. Bleahz. *Blame myself for having such a short attention span*

But the coming of rain has really made the environment of studying much cooler. Its been ages since the last rain and these past two days of sky juice really helps. Ok, guess its time to hit my notes!

75% Suay

Yep. As above. As related to an earlier post, I said that my current batch this semester is suay. I know the statistic paper was easy but it was also different from the past years. So currently, it is already a hatrick. 3 out of 4 papers done and all totally different from the previous papers. WTF? But I STILL will not believe that my luck is that bad. I STILL will study past year papers for my last paper on Monday. Blardee hell, at least give us a paper we all can do confidently mah! Why pull this kinda stunt? Bleahz...

At least I have plenty of things to look forward to after the exams. Chalet, clubbing, another competition, meeting my Mei etc. In the meanwhile, wish me luck again? Haha. Thanks for reading.
